September Found Poem

Ninna Nanna di Pace - Lullaby of Peace

This lullaby is traditionally sung to young children in Italy. It is a lyric poem about the arrival of a child in a new country. The narrator speaks lovingly to the child, telling him or her that he/she will find a home in the narrator’s home and that tomorrow is a bright new day filled with hope and peace.
I chose this poem for several reasons. Firstly, it was about finding both a home and peace, which ties it into the theme of the calendar. Secondly, it is a fantastic contrast to the lost poem for Spetember - Lullaby of Truth – which, although also a lullaby used to lull a child to sleep, speaks of a hopeless existence with little peace. Although there is no set rhyme scheme, there is certainly some rhyme and rhythm to the text.
This poem also contains several poetic devices, such as personification, metaphors, and similes.

E all'improvviso ogni parola capirai.

Aspetta fino a domani
E vedrai svanire quel muro

proprio tu

Lullaby of Peace

Lullaby of peace that I wrote
Thinking of a child
Who arrived last night from the sea with the cold that is
Carried on the wings of the windFrom a far country to right here
With the sweetest memories of another town in your pocket.

Lullaby of peace and tomorrow will be a new day
As in a fairy tale that speaks of happinessWithout the shadow of the big bad wolf and the witch will not come
With a king like my grandfather who will not go to war

And I'll sing slowly in a language that today you do not know,
And suddenly you'll understand every word.
It will be a song of peace, friendship and imagination
Lullaby and your hand is in mine.

Lullaby of peace for those who stretch their hands
Over the wall, looking for someone to play
 Wait until tomorrow
And you'll see that wall vanish
Lullaby of peace to anyone who has no peace

And in my home your home you’ll find yours;
It is full of games and if you want they’ll be yours.
But perhaps the best game you will teach me
Lullaby and the fear is gone!

Run with me to play hide and seek
Be happy because you know I'll find you
And in a bright sun your smile will
Shine with mine
And we will be like brothers, you and I
Lullaby and your hand is in mine.
