attention
This poem, along with its “found” counterpart, is meant to explore the thought patterns of a very disorganized mind. By using no punctuation and a rather choppy stream of consciousness, regarding a forgotten poem, my goal was to create an image of the narrator’s thoughts. The improper capitalization has two purposes: firstly, it is meant to further the appearance of chaotic atmosphere of the poem and secondly, when strung together, the capitalized letters spell out the nature of this individual’s mind.
In order to achieve the thought-like tone, I chose to write this poem in free verse with only very basic poetic devises such as similes and metaphors. Both these poems fit into my theme because they explore the way in which we find and lose ideas and thoughts.
lost
one Poem
i swEar i had it fiRmly in my head
Planted so snugly betweEn my imaginaTion and cerebral cortex
that it woUld remAin there forever
yet somehow
it managed to wriggLe its way
through the Cracks
and drown itself in the spinning wHirlpool of my
thoughts
ideAtions
some fully fOrmed
Some never complete
i hAve them from time to time
they spring iNto my heaD
like corks popping out of champagne bottles
then before I know what’s happeneD
they’re gone
wIth no proof they ever exiSted
aside frOm faint
memoRies
intanGible souvenirs
the form everything Is eventuAlly reduced to
aNd therefore
everything Is immortaliZed
and no mAtter how many Time i
share these memorIes
they will always be mine
althOugh oNce and awhile
i find them getting
lost
one poem
i found please Return to me
reward gUaranteed
